Hi Everyone,
It’s that time when we take a moment to reflect on the past year, thinking about the events, connections, and emotions that 2014 held for each of us.
I have so many treasured recollections of special times with my family and friends, and feel so lucky to have those memories to keep close in my heart. In addition to those cherished times, I have another set of memories that I keep close. Though I never want my cancer to define me, I can’t help but to have recollections of special people and events that impacted my cancer journey. I think all cancer patients have moments, events, and people in their reflections that have made a difference somehow in their own cancer story. Here are just a few of mine.
– The relief I felt each time my doctor told me that my scans showed me my cancer was stable.
– The discovery of a new grilled cheese recipe (the only food I can eat when I’m not feeling well – go figure!!!)
– The outings my husband Ken would take me on, knowing I needed to get out and connect with life, always knowing just where to take me to lift my spirits – the beach, a ride to P’town, the library, and so many other special spots.
– The gift of cozy jammies given to me by a friend who knew the importance of my “sleep-ins”.
– The lunch I had with two close friends who let me rant on and on about my anger and fears about my cancer, and my brother’s cancer.
– The texts and calls that would come from our kids, always seeming to know just the right time to get in touch.
– The camaraderie I experienced when walking with so many Ovarian Cancer survivors during the Live Like Renee 5K sponsored by Diane Riche and this amazing group.
– The slice of peanut butter cake my nephew brought me to boost my spirits.
– The purpose I felt while working with the Dancing For a Cure Group to raise funds for Ovarian and Breast Cancer research.
There are so many memories tied in with my cancer – so many events and people who have made a difference in my journey, and who have supported me along the way. I will be forever grateful to them all.
Here’s to a happy 2015, one filled with promise and hope. Here’s to continued advances in cancer research. Here’s to survivors celebrating more birthdays. Here’s to caregivers being recognized for their continued support and love. Here’s to the crusaders who work tirelessly every day to spread the word, fund research, and find a cure. Here’s to us all continuing the fight, being in each other’s corner, working together to lift each other up as live each day to the fullest.
Wishing you the happiest of New Years!
‘Til Next Time,
MJ Keenan
